Music & Drama

Pupils with musical and acting talent are well catered for at St. Caimin’s, where they are given ample opportunities to perform. The school has produced a number of outstanding musical and dramatic productions including ‘Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’, ‘Oliver’, ‘High School Musical’ and the ‘C Factor’.

In these productions pupils are enabled and encouraged to display and develop their talents in singing, acting, stage design, set construction, lighting, sound production, design of programmes including sales and promotion.

Pupils are encouraged to take part in the school choir. They are also given opportunities to go further afield to see dramatic productions in Limerick, Cork, Dublin and Galway.

Art

Art exists within various curricula as a subject in St. Caimin's  yet this also expands into so much more where it becomes an extra curricular activity that engages with all aspects of school life. From the commissioning of art for local organisations, to stage and costume design for musicals there is opportunity galore to express individuality and creativity. Use of modern technology is embraced in various ways (eg. Google competitons).  The practice and appreciation of Art plays an important role within the social, personal and cognitive development of all our students.

To recognise the extraordinary achievments and abilities of gifted students we have a prestigious award in place.  This is sponsored by the the Sisters of Mercy and is awarded annually to the most gifted Students in the field of the Arts.

School Tours

A proud tradition of St. Caimin's lies in the variety of places that we have visited.

European Links

Our French Exchange is organised annually with Lyceé Saint Pierre in Saint Brieuc in Brittany. A group of our Fourth Year students spend one week there immersing themselves in French life and culture, visiting the region and perfecting their French. On the other side of the exchange the French students will attend classes at St. Caimin's and also visit the tourist attractions in our County. Students benefit from such an exchange in the following ways;

  • In the State Certificate Examinations, a substantial amount of marks are given to oral and aural proficiency- (45% in total).  The best way to improve a person’s ability to speak the language is to visit the country and live with native speakers.

  •  Under the exchange system, students also benefit by socialising with other young people of a different culture and language.

  • During the exchange in France, the students will have an opportunity to work on their project, which is part of their Leaving Certificate oral examination
